Position description: EDGE is seeking a motivated Wetland Delineator with demonstrated experience leading biological surveys, focused primarily on wetland delineation and habitat assessment for our clients in the Energy, Transportation, Chemical, and Manufacturing industries.

As a member of the team, you will assist in the design and implementation of field programs, lead wetland delineations and habitat assessments, prepare the necessary environmental reports and documentation to support federal and state environmental permit applications. You will also support the preparation of federal and state permit applications related to the development of projects located throughout the United States.

Responsibilities include:

  • Design and implementation of field programs, leading wetland delineation, habitat assessment, and threatened/endangered species habitat surveys.

  • Conducts wetlands delineation in accordance with regulatory standards.

  • Prepare technically detailed environmental reports and documentation to support federal and state environmental permits (e.g., wetland delineation reports).

  • Ensuring all field data including photographs, and datasheets are organized and accessible.

  • Assist with Section 404, Section 10, and Section 401 permitting.

  • Assist with the preparation of proposals and cost estimates.

  • Facilitating meetings and other communications with Federal and State agencies.

  • Work within quality/budget/schedule expectations and scope-specific assignments.

Position description: The Engagement Manager position is a front-line fundraising role focused primarily on engaging and growing a portfolio of supporters and partners to meet our fundraising goals. This role will be responsible for donor retention, engagement, and top of funnel conversion for a specific portfolio of one-time and recurring donors. Responsibilities will include sharing of outcomes, managing fundraising campaigns, planning and executing small donor events, and connecting donors with our work in various countries. The new team member will report to our Director of Engagement.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Maintain and build a portfolio of potential donors (120-150) with the capacity to make contributions of up to $5,000.

  • Manage and exceed the portfolio fundraising goal of $250,000 through individual gifts, partnerships and events.

  • Ability to develop, maintain and lead a stewardship plan to engage current and prospective donors.

  • Be an advocate for the families we serve by getting to know them, share their stories with respect and authenticity, and partner with them to independence.

  • Support the distribution of engagement opportunities and news to reach new audiences.

  • Work with our Program Team (local and global) to gather testimonials and content to share with our supporters through our regular communications channels.

  • Collaborate with the Engagement Team to draft and distribute letter appeals and gratitude messages to supports throughout the year.

Carnegie Museums is hiring a Science Communications & Media Specialist

Position description: The Science Communications and Media Specialist is a dynamic and creative new role that will be responsible for advancing public engagement with science through compelling storytelling, multimedia content creation, and strategic communications.

This position is integral to the Science Center’s new “Rapid Science Engagement Initiative,” which was created to help educate our diverse audiences about timely scientific news impacting our world so that it is more accessible, relevant, and engaging.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Science communication strategy – Develop and implement communication strategies that enhance public understanding of relevant and timely science topics that are impacting our region and our world.

  • Collaboration – Work closely with the Science Center’s Marketing team and “Rapid Science Engagement Initiative” team, along with the Science Communication Advisory Committee, to develop relevant science-related topics to highlight to our diverse audiences.

  • Content creation and writing – Develop and write clear, accurate, and engaging science content for various platforms, including blog posts, articles, websites, press releases, and educational materials.

  • Social media management – Strategize, create, and manage engaging social media content related to the “Rapid Science Engagement Initiative” across multiple platforms including Facebook, Instagram, X, Threads, LinkedIn, TikTok, and YouTube.

  • Videography & multimedia production – Plan, film, and edit short-form video content to showcase scientific topics, experts, and events. Collaborate with subject matter experts (including scientists and educators) to produce multimedia content that highlights their work and engages the public.

  • Collaboration and outreach – Collaborate with internal teams, scientists, educators, and other experts to ensure accuracy and effectiveness in communication efforts.

  • Public engagement - Identify opportunities for public engagement and outreach, including building out both on-site and virtual events, that will yield interesting videos, podcasts, blog posts, and written materials that make the topics appealing to broad audiences.

Cacapon and Lost Rivers Land Trust is hiring a Land Protection Director

Position Description: The Land Conservation Director (LCD) is responsible for conservation easement acquisition and stewardship.

The LCD reports to and works closely with the Executive Director (ED). The LCD must be a self-starter who can determine what needs to be done and do it with minimal oversight. The LCD must also be able to work in a team and engage authentically with a wide variety of people from diverse communities.

The LCD position is a full-time, salaried position. Work is performed in the Trust’s Capon Bridge, WV office; in the field throughout the watershed; and, if desired, remotely. Day-trip travel is required several times per month, and evening or weekend work is required approximately every 2 months but occasionally multiple times in a single month.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Establish and maintain contact with potential easement donors.

    negotiate transactions that meet CLRLT’s and landowners’ goals.

  • Order and review title investigations, surveys, appraisals, etc.

  • Draft and revise conservation easement deed language, consulting with Executive Director and legal counsel as needed.

  • Manage conservation easement acquisition records and communications.

  • Prepare progress reports for the Executive Director and Board of Directors

  • Arrange for easement closings and completion of baseline reports.

  • Manage monitoring of all Trust-held conservation easements, including scheduling visits with landowners, reviewing easement deeds and prior reports to prepare for each visit, inspecting properties to ensure compliance with conservation easement terms, completing monitoring reports (with maps, track logs, and photographs wherever possible), and updating records for each easement and landowner.

  • Maintain records for conservation easements, landowner contacts, monitoring, and stewardship of easements (violations, inquiries, amendments, etc.)

  • Report landowner inquiries and potential violations to the Executive Director.

  • Work with the Executive Director to respond to landowner inquiries and manage violations, amendments, etc.

  • Identify opportunities for improved management of eased properties and assist landowners in learning about programs (state, federal, etc.) to enhance land management.

Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank is hiring a Distributions Coordinator

Position description: Distribution Coordinators are responsible for the planning, implementation, and onsite coordination of Food Bank large-scale distribution events. Currently, this consists of eighteen monthly distributions throughout the Food Bank’s eleven county service region. Additionally, coordinators will work with partners throughout the Food Bank’s eleven county service region to procure food, organize trucking logistics, and improve output at distribution events run by these partners. Individuals in this role will work with the Distributions Manager to generate goals for increasing efficiency and output of current distributions, as well as operationalizing a new innovative distribution model to effectively serve families through the region. Ideally, a Distributions Coordinator has passion for the organizations mission of eliminating hunger in Southwestern Pennsylvania, an ability to cultivate strong working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders, and can problem solve in real time onsite at distributions. This position allows for flexible working arrangement; individuals in this role will not always work a typical forty-hour work week, weekends and evenings are required three-four times per month to support distribution events. The role will require staff to be onsite at the Food Bank or at distribution events for at least fifteen hours per week.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Distribution Coordinators must execute the logistical details of eighteen monthly distributions, some of which the team staffs directly. These events help serve families with over 300,000 pounds per month in the Food Bank’s service region. Events are held indoor and outdoor, rain or shine.

  • Plan and order items to be distributed at distributions based on estimated numbers of households expected at sites and product available, using the Food Bank’s user interface software.

  • Lead groups of twenty to forty staff and volunteers with instructions and best practices at distribution events.

  • Determine best product allocations onsite at distribution events, ensuring equitable food distribution as much as possible to all guests.

  • Potentially lowering a share to ensure all guests receive at least something for coming if the crowd is larger than expected.

    Increasing a share to ensure that an event distributes as much of the food as was brought as possible.

  • Utilize the Customer relationship management software's Link2Feed and Salesforce

  • Communicate weekly with the Food Bank’s Community Engagement team to ensure appropriate volunteer coverage at distribution events, including providing specific numbers of specialized registration and home delivery volunteers.

  • Communicate regularly with the Food Bank’s Operations Department to ensure product has been appropriately ordered and picked, supplies are prepared, and food is getting to events in a timely manner.

  • Communicate regularly with other stakeholders in distribution events: Partner Network Programs, Information Technology, Community Connections, and Marketing and Communications.

  • Provide exemplary levels of customer service at all distribution events; treat all other volunteers and guests with respect and kindness, recognizing that coming to a Food Bank distribution to receive food is not the easiest thing to do.

  • Work with the Distributions Manager to identify creative and efficient mechanisms to increase the output of Distribution programs to help reach the goals laid out in the strategic plan.

Position description: Appalachian Forest National Heritage Area (AFNHA) is seeking AmeriCorps members for conservation related positions for the program year beginning September 4, 2024. AFNHA AmeriCorps members provide a term of National Service, allowing an individual to benefit local communities & landscapes while gaining professional experience & strengthening skills.

Positions are one year with a living stipend provided ($21,000). The Segal Education Award ($7,395) and a West Virginia Tuition Waiver is granted to those that successfully complete the full year. Available position locations span across eastern West Virginia and provide support to local communities through projects that support asset improvement or educational stewardship related to environmental conservation.

Conservation members get involved by improving public lands and providing outreach and education to local community members and students. Get your hands dirty! Plant trees, remove invasive species, and provide live educational programming! Members serve in a variety of locations across our counties including state agencies like the Division of Forestry, Federal agencies like the Monongahela National Forest and U.S. Fish & Wildlife, nonprofits like The Nature Conservancy, local governments, and others.
