The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is hiring an Environmental Engineer Manager

Position description: This role will manage all activities related to the permits section of the clean water program at the Northwest Regional Office. Responsibilities will include supervising and directing operations within the permits section, which involves reviewing permit applications for accuracy and compliance with existing laws, regulations, policies, and guidelines before making recommendations. Strong communication skills are crucial for interacting with permit applicants, the general public, and government agencies.

Responsibilities include:

  • Directs the implementation of the Clean Water Program's NPDES and Water Quality Management permit programs to ensure goals and objectives are met.

  • Through the subordinate staff, ensures proper workload distribution and directs the review of NPDES permit applications including: development of technology based limitations (TBELs) and water quality based limitations (WQBELs), preparing the draft permit, comment response documents, the permit for final issuance or other Departmental action.

  • Through the subordinate staff, directs the review of (WQM) permit applications for industrial wastewater and sewage. The permit staff use the Department's manuals, guidance, technical references, literature and professional judgement in reviewing these applications to determine completeness, adequacy of design, adherence to Department guidelines and to assure the facilities are capable of compliance with the effluent limitations and other requirements in the NPDES Permit.

  • Reviews all permit documentation for accuracy and consistency with current Law, Regulation, Policy and Guidance prior to submitting a recommendation to the Program Manager.

    Assists Central Office, the Operations Section Assessment Biologists and other staff in the development of Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs) for stream segments identified on the 303(D) list of impared waters.

  • Monitors the coordination of permit reviews to ensure application processing flows smoothly in compliance with the Department's Permit Decision Guarantee program and established Standard Operating Procedures. Ensures the permit staff adequately communicates with the applicant, other governmental agencies and general public during the permit reviews; that they prepare timely letters to the applicant and consultants; that they prepare the final documents with the appropriate recommendation.

Earth Day Network is hiring a Campus Field Organizer (short-term contract)

Position description: Earth Day Network is spearheading a targeted, voter engagement program on four college campuses across North Carolina and Pennsylvania. The program, known as Vote Earth 2024, encourages students to register to vote as well as to pledge to vote in the 2024 election, with strong consideration for environmental issues. The perfect candidate for this role is a student who is hard working, mission oriented, and passionate about protecting the environment and human health.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Conduct voter registration in person and in classrooms.

  • Recruit and train volunteers to conduct voter registration.

  • Conduct outreach to students and faculty to conduct voter registration.

  • Lead phone banks to remind students when and how to vote.

  • Use social media and one-on-one communication to inform students on how to register and vote as well as to provide information on the impact of federal elections on national and global environmental policy.

Position description: The Engagement Manager position is a front-line fundraising role focused primarily on engaging and growing a portfolio of supporters and partners to meet our fundraising goals. Hawk Mountain Sanctuary is hiring a Director of Education

Position description: The Director of Education is a senior position that manages and directs Hawk Mountain education programs and activities. This position requires the regular exercise of discretion and independent judgment and reports directly to the President. Primary duties include leadership in Sanctuary education, team development, hiring, training, directing, and supervising staff, volunteers, trainees, and interns who work in education. Plays a leadership role in developing our calendar of events, forming partnerships with partner organizations, coordinating education marketing, overseeing captive raptors, working collaboratively with departments, and serving on the education committee as a liaison to the board of directors.

The Nature Conservancy is hiring a Prescribed Fire Manager

Position description: The Prescribed Fire Manager provides support to Ohio and Michigan business units for fire management activities related to prescribed fires, wildfires, fire training and fire qualifications (See TNC’s Fire Management Manual). With prescribed burn qualifications including National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) Prescribed Fire Manager (RXMG) and Prescribed Fire Burn Boss Type 2 (RXB2), the position reviews and approves fire management plans, prescribed burn plans, and contractor qualifications. The Prescribed Fire Manager mentors, supports, evaluates, certifies, and designates burn bosses. They provide Ignition Authorizations for Conservancy prescribed burns. They ensure Conservancy fire management requirements and guidelines are met or exceeded and keep senior leadership in their area informed of fire program activities, needs, risks and accomplishments. The Prescribed Fire Manager modifies or exempts specific fire management guidelines as defined in the Fire Management Manual, with written justification.

Key responsibilities include: The Prescribed Fire Manager ensures that fire personnel qualification records are annually collected for and maintained in the IQCS database. They ensure timely notifications are made for all reportable fire incidents and annual reporting of the program's fire management activities. They review proposed contracts and agreements related to fire management activities and provide comments to TNC legal counsel. The Prescribed Fire Manager oversees internal reviews and designs and implements fire safety standards specific to the programs overseen, provided that those standards meet or exceed organizational standards, and may suspend fire management program operations if there is clear evidence of safety violations, serious risk of potential safety violations, or non-compliance with Conservancy SOPs, requirements, or guidelines.
