SWPA Municipal Project Hub is hiring a Director of Government Funding

Position description: The SWPA Municipal Project Hub (the Hub) helps local governments, school districts, and nonprofits in Southwestern Pennsylvania access historic federal infrastructure & clean energy funding by connecting them with the resources, hands-on technical assistance, and other support they need to conceptualize, fund, and implement high-impact projects. This includes matching communities with grant opportunities that suit their existing projects; connecting communities with funded, contracted grant writers to help them submit grant applications; and working with partners to strategically develop and align multi-municipal projects to future federal funding opportunities. The Hub serves the 10-county region of Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Fayette, Greene, Indiana, Lawrence, Washington, and Westmoreland. 

Responsibilities include:

-Project Grant Writing and Management 

  • Further develop and maintain the Hub’s Grant Prospectus that tracks Federal, State, and Philanthropic opportunities and the necessary requirements and deadlines for each funding opportunity. 

  • Identifies and evaluates grant opportunities on behalf of identified agencies and community partners to ensure proper project scope and alignment. 

  • Research, write, and submit grant proposals to government agencies and other grant-making organizations as needed. 

  • Manage the Hub’s contracted grant writing technical assistance providers to ensure complete applications are submitted in accordance with grantor guidelines and that municipal applicants are well supported in the grant writing process.  

  • Work closely with Hub staff to ensure cohesive grant applications have robust community engagement and supporting data and research. 

-Regional Investment Strategic Leadership 

  • Research and identify applicable financing opportunities at the federal, state, and local levels that align with community grant applications and projects. 

  • Develop collaborative funding strategies and grant applications for Hub partner communities. 

  • Collaborate with government agencies and other funders/financing intermediaries to increase collaboration and make grant opportunities more accessible to communities 

  • Support agencies applying for joint IRA, IIJA, or other grants for other creative collaborative financing opportunities to benefit the SWPA region. 

Location: Remote within the Southwest Pennsylvania Region

Experience: Mid to Senior Level

Swaniti Initiative is hiring a Consultant for Renewable Energy in Appalachia (short term contract)

Position description: Swaniti Global Initiative is seeking a short-term consultant with a deep understanding of the renewable energy and local government spaces in Appalachia to help develop a network of stakeholders that will advance energy transition and economic development efforts throughout the region.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Improve our tools and research in ensuring that we are able to create resourceful programs. 

  • Help design and launch workshops with appropriate organizations in Appalachia 

  • Facilitating one-on-one meetings with relevant personnel who can provide additional insights into our work.  

  • Help us organize one flagship roundtable discussion with key stakeholders. 

  • Actively contribute to ideas on how to strengthen our work. 

Location: Remote in Appalachia

Pittsburgh Glass Center is hiring an Accountant and Administration Manager

Position description:

The Accountant and Administration Manager is a shared role between Contemporary Craft (CC) and Pittsburgh Glass Center (PGC). The role supports the mission and vision of both organizations by overseeing operations in the areas of financial administration and human resources while being an active participant in the organization’s overall operations. Your unique contributions make dynamic arts programming possible for the greater Pittsburgh region.

The Accountant and Administration Manager is the direct liaison to the independent audit firm during the audit fieldwork. The position is also responsible for all payroll functions including timely submission of payroll, administration of benefits, and onboarding of staff and independent contractors. The position also provides support for the Shared CFO and the finance/audit/investment committees.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Prepare monthly and year-end closings. Perform monthly general ledger reconciliations, resolving discrepancies and ensuring data accuracy between AccuFund Accounting System (CC)/Fund EZ (PGC) and other systems utilized by each organization.

  • Oversee financial, project/program and grants accounting; ensure that expenditures are consistently aligned with grant and program budgets throughout the grant/fund period; collate financial reporting materials for government, corporate, and foundation grants.

  • Monitor financial systems and controls to ensure accuracy and reduce risk and compliance with tax regulations (federal, state, local, payroll, etc.).

  • Maintain all financial records, ensuring the general ledgers, financial statements, investment statements and reports are prepared in a timely and accurate manner.

  • Maintain and update financial policy and procedures, and the distribution of the file to the staff members.

412 Justice is hiring an Environmental Justice Organizer

Position description: 412 JUSTICE is seeking a full-time Environmental Organizer to create new leads, follow up with neighborhood leads generated by our canvass team, build chapters, and develop leaders who will identify local issues and direct successful issue- based campaigns throughout the Allegheny and surrounding areas, with a strong focus on the Mon-Valley.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Identifies, recruits, and trains leaders to help lead the campaign

  • Builds membership and tests community support

  • Creates positive leadership relationships with member leaders and activists

  • Plans and executes large member actions (actions, rally, etc.)

  • Mobilizes members (house calls, Lobby Day, Meetings, Door Knocking)

  • Records conversations, assessments, and follow-ups with member leaders

  • Maintains and updates various campaign lists and data systems

  • Charts and analyses membership and community involvement

  • Work fluidly in a team where you are sometimes a leader and sometimes a follower.

Salary/Pay: $48,000-$58,000/year

Clean Air Council is hiring an Allegheny County Project Coordinator

Position description: The project coordinator will be responsible for implementing Clean Air Council’s 3-year community composting project in Clairton, Braddock, and Swissvale. The project coordinator will work to educate residents and local groups about the benefits of community composting and support the construction of compost bins to divert as much biodegradable waste away from landfills as possible. Our goal is to build at least 50 bins in each community and connect neighbors to each other to support the project. We seek to create a network where residents will safely and effectively divert kitchen and yard waste by maintaining compost piles in their yards or at a community compost site. The project coordinator will conduct outreach in neighborhoods to find interested people, hold public education meetings, and provide materials to build compost systems in communities that don’t currently have access to municipal composting. Project responsibilities may change over time.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Implement a community outreach and engagement plan to engage residents and community stakeholders in the community composting project, including activities such as organizing events, tabling at community events, and knocking doors  

  • Educate the public, including residents and local groups, about the basics of composting through one-on-one conversations and hands-on community workshops 

  • Assist residents in setting up and maintaining safe, durable, and animal-resistant compost bins 

  • Connect people who may have barriers to participation in the project (e.g., access to land for composting, a disability, etc) 

  • Prepare educational resources about composting and promotional materials about upcoming community meetings (e.g., webinars, fact sheets, flyers)

Location: Remote in Pennsylvania

Salary/Pay: $45,000 - $50,000 / year

Center for Oil and Gas Organizing is hiring a Field Organizing Manager - Apply ASAP, due August 9th

Position description: COGO seeks a Field Organizing Manager to create and execute organizing and powerbuilding strategies that demonstrate support for the Pause. The Field Manager will focus on the state of Pennsylvania (PA) and will work in partnership with COGO colleagues executing this work in other key states.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Cultivate relationships with PA coalition partners and community leaders.

  • Co-create and implement a statewide regranting and field program in PA. 

  • Work to identify critical PA messengers across core constituency groups. 

  • Develop advocacy and communications opportunities for PA partners in the months leading up to the DOE Comment period (anticipated late 2024/early 2025).

  • Hold regular check-ins with partners and grantees to assess status and capacity to contribute to a comment period push along other core tactics where their voice could be valuable. Manage regrant scope and terms. 

  • Facilitate clear communication channels between PA Partners and COGO/Press partners.

  • Work with partners to identify, develop, and implement new strategies to connect the gas export issue with other related issues in state all while beating back oil and gas industry narratives. 

  • Work closely with the Strategy and Partnerships Director as point staff in MI and PA.

Location: Remote with a preference for candidates based in PA or Washington DC.

Experience: Mid-level

Salary/Pay: $85,000-$95,000/year
